Sunday Worship: 10:00 am

6137 Salem Rd., Cincinnati, Ohio 45230

Salem Community Church is an upbeat bunch of imperfect people.  We aren’t very churchy, but we are God-focused, Bible Centered, and people caring.    We try hard to just accept you as you are, but not without hoping better for each other.  The cool part about a real faith community is that you can usually count on us believing in you even when you don’t believe in yourself.

If you are having a bad day, you don’t have to be fake.  You don’t have to impress anyone here.  We won’t try to fix you, besides, Jesus is the real healer anyway.  We’ll be amazingly patient and compassionate while you grow in your faith.

Our worship services will keep your attention, but they are not planned for your entertainment.  They are purposed for God’s pleasure.   He is the center of our lives, the reason for our hope, the inspiration of our love and caring.  We hope you will like the music and are confident that the message will challenge and inspire you.  Our end game is to sing and speak what is pleasing to the Lord.

The messages are packed with Bible passages because we believe it’s God’s Word that will change your life not some preacher’s personality or silver tongue.  None of us are perfect, we are just learning and growing together.   All perfect people may feel free to float to the ceiling :)

If you really want to grow spiritually, Salem is big on equipping you to go to the next level.  We’ll help you, equip you, train you, even mentor you on how to grow emotionally, spiritually, and even physically.  We exist to help you grow stronger in your faith and your finances, your relationships and your health.

We are not afraid to talk about money here, because it’s a common area of concern for everyone.  No one is going to call you because of how much or how little you are giving, because that’s between you and God.  Make no mistake, we will always encourage you to grow in generosity.  We just don’t pressure anyone.  If you aren’t ready to give – then apparently we need give to you – and we’re OK with that.    Because one day, you’ll be the one giving and someone else may be the one doing all the receiving.

You will find that the majority of our people like to serve.   Our volunteer ratio is high yet we don’t guilt anyone into doing anything.  They just want to serve.  It may be cleaning the church, serving the needy folks in our local area, or participating in events in our Greater Cincinnati area.  We want to make a positive difference with our surrounding neighbors.  Some people volunteer several times a week, some once a quarter or less.  Whenever or whatever you do – we will appreciate it!

SEEKER SENSITIVE (but not watered down)

We really want to encourage non-churched people to attend here.  We realize that God may send us someone from another church to help us in our mission here, what we really want are people who are not connected with any church.  We’re looking for people who don’t have a church home but could use a church family.   So feel welcome to come try us out for a few weeks.  Please don’t feel you have to do anything or give anything when you come.  You are our guest.  We’re tickled to serve you.  It’s OK to just come and receive from us.  Just check us out!  You are welcome here!

Salem exists to  Make Disciples for the
Transformaiton of the World

It is our mission to provide people a well rounded experience in Christ rather than mere weekend ritual.

We do that by providing opportunities to 1) FELLOWSHIP with God and each other; 2) GROW strong relationally and spiritually; 3) SERVE our community, our nation, and the world; 4) REACH OUT and make a positive difference in a world of unbelief; and 5) WORSHIP a living God who real and present whenever two or more of us gather in His Name!

Be a part of the Vision

To grow a Jesus centered church who grow relationally strong and are equipped to reach a world with a life changing message.

This is the core of our being.

  • The Lordship of Christ
  • The primacy of relationships
  • Ever-present fruit

We believe Jesus is the resurrected Lord, and that His resurrection power is available to us today!  We can't wait for you to discover Him and us!!

Salem Community Church

John Christian Larsen has been the pastor at Salem Community Church since 1983.  John graduated from Ohio University and went on to earn his Masters of Divinity. John is happily married to his wife, Merilie and has three children, a daughter-in-law, a son-in-law, and four grandchildren (all of whom still attend Salem).  And he enjoys competitive sailing during the non-winter months.

John will challenge you with applicable truths from God’s word that you will feel he prepared just for you to hear that day.  Pastor John has the sarcasm of Elijah, combined with the very direct challenges of the prophet Jeremiah, and yet somehow finds a way to make you feel so loved and accepted – you can’t help but spread that to others.

John is a HUGE Bible promoter.  That is always going to be the basis for anything we teach or do at Salem.  But you don’t have to accept his interpretation of it.  He encourages you to read it for yourselves, study it on your own and come to your own conclusions.  But in the meantime, John will continue each week to teach from the Bible timeless truths that truly transform (that’s a lot of “t”s).

AUTHENTICITY:  We believe we can’t be what God has called us to be if we are not genuinely ourselves. We must be our true selves so that we make a connection with one another on a higher level.

BIBLICAL TRUTH: We believe the Bible is God’s inherent truth and it’s the foundation to everything we do.

COMMUNICATION: He used the current language and daily life experiences of those around him to communicate truth.

LIFE TOGETHER: We aren’t interested in being a place where a lot of people get together for an inspiring service but never move beyond the casual, arm’s distance relationships of an auditorium.

EXCELLENCE: We don’t believe in striving for unrealistic perfection. Real excellence is about bringing your best to God’s work and to life in general.

GROWTH: This is a safe place for everyone. But safe doesn’t mean comfortable. The answers aren’t always comfortable.

"Set your hearts on his kingdom first, and on God's saving justice, and all these other things will be given you as well."   Matthew 6:33 (NJB)
